Chapter 17: Mianeyo...

*DING LEVEL 1*

Jaein ran out of the lift, and dashed into the carpark aimlessly. She searched desperately around for Jaejoong, but he was nowhere to be seen.

Jaein's thoughts: Eodiseo??!!! WHERE ARE YOU??!!!! PLEASE DON'T BE GONE ALREADY!!!

Jaein jumped around as she ran through the carpark, hoping to catch a glimpse of Jaejoong getting into his car, or in his car. But there were TOO MANY cars. And her tube dress and heels didn't make things easier for her at all.

*SCREEEEEECCCCCHHHHH*

The sound of car tyres screeching against the carpark floor made Jaein look at the direction where the sound came from. She ran towards it only to see Jaejoong driving off in his car.

Jaein (desperately): KIM JAEJOONG!!!! STOP!!!! KAJIMAL!!!! DON'T GO!!!! WAIT!!!!

Jaejoong didn't seem to hear her at all, and he continued driving off towards the exit. She tried to pick up speed to run after his car. But she couldn't catch up with him at all. As she saw the car drive out of the exit, she missed her footing, and she fell...

Jaein's thoughts (looking at the exit in despair): He... he... he's... gone....

Jaein slammed her palms continuously on the floor in frustration (with herself), and broke down in tears.

Jaein's thoughts: Why did I have to be so bent on pushing him away, when it's causing me so much pain? Didn't he say that he still loved me? Now he's gone... forever... Why did I have to force him away? WHY WHY WHY???!!!! WHY AM I SUCH AN IDIOT???!!!

Jaejoong's car...

Jaejoong drove out of Jaein's apartment carpark, only to stop his car a few metres away. He slammed his hands onto his steering wheel in frustration.

Jaejoong's thoughts: WHY MUST SHE BE SO STUBBORN??!!! WHY CAN'T SHE BELIEVE ME???!!! CAN'T SHE SEE THAT I STILL LOVE HER VERY MUCH???!!! CAN'T SHE SEE THAT SHE'S THE ONLY ONE I WANT??!!!

He stared angrily out into the dark night.

Jaein closed her eyes, and collapsed onto the floor, hugging herself in a foetus position. Her heart ached tremendously. It was even worse than when she left a year ago. She was having trouble breathing, and it felt like she was going to die.

A pair of hands touched her, and she opened her tear-filled eyes. The bright light from the carpark blinded her eyes temporarily. A blur image appeared in front of her...

Gwenchanayo?

That voice.

So familiar.

And yet so foreign.

Jaein blinked her eyes a few times to clear her vision.

The first thing she saw was Jaejoong's worried eyes staring at her.

She blinked a few more times to make sure that she was hallucinating due to the pain that she was experiencing.

Jaein (weakly): Jae...joong...

Jaejoong pulled Jaein into his arms, hugging her tightly.

Jaejoong: Thank goodness you're alright... I thought something happened to you when I saw you lying on the floor just now...

Jaein (sobbing): Mianeyo... mianeyo...

Jaejoong pulled away from the hug to look at Jaein.

Jaejoong: Why are you apologizing to me? You didn't do anything wrong...

Jaein: I did... I was wrong... to push you away... when you were trying so hard to make things work... I really don't deserve your love... I...

Jaejoong pulled Jaein's face close to his, and planted a soft kiss on her lips.

Jaejoong (lovingly): Don't ever think that you don't deserve my love... I wouldn't want anyone else... but you... You're everything to me...

Jaein: But I...

Jaejoong: No buts... I just need you to believe me... My love for you... is 100% true... If it can make you believe me, I would swear that I won't speak to, or look at other women at all from now on...

Jaejoong raised his hand, ready to do a swear to proof his love for Jaein.

Jaein (grabbing his hand, and pulling it back down): Anio... That's not necessary... I believe you... Miduhyo...

Jaejoong smiled at Jaein and pulled her in for a hug.

After hugging for some time...

Jaejoong: I think we'd better get you back to your apartment. We don't want the security thinking that we're mad sitting in the carpark like this...

Jaein smiled and struggled to get herself back up standing. Jaejoong got up too and helped her get up.

Jaejoong: I need to get my car back in here, cos I left it outside just now... Can you wait for me at the lift lobby?

Jaein: Okay...

Jaejoong left to get his car, while Jaein walked back to the lift lobby. He drove back into the carpark in a jiff, and was walking towards Jaein at the lift lobby. Jaein looked at Jaejoong as he walked stylishly in his black suit towards her. He wasn't even smiling or anything, but the sight of him striding like THAT towards her was making her realise why so many of his fangirls were fainting and screaming in school whenever the three of them walked past...

Jaein's thoughts: Kingka is indeed kingka... How did I EVER think that I can block THIS out of my mind? He's TOO distracting... Even a simple walk is so different from the rest of the people...

A smile broke across Jaejoong's face as he stepped into the lobby. He slid his arm around Jaein's waist, and took his place beside her. Jaein looked up at his smiley face.

Jaejoong (bemused): Wae?

Jaein (sheepishly): Nothing...

Jaejoong (smiling): Then let's get you back home...

Jaejoong reached out to push the lift button, but his arm was still around Jaein's waist, pulling her towards him as he leaned forward for the lift button. Jaein stumbled slightly at the lost in centre of gravity, bumping into Jaejoong's body. Jaejoong grabbed her waist with both his arms to prevent her from falling. Jaein looked up at Jaejoong.

Jaein (embarrassedly): Mianeyo... I'm still quite clumsy... in these dresses and heels...

Jaejoong looked down at Jaein, and caught a glimpse of her ample cleavage peeking through her tube dress. He felt his cheeks burn up, and looked away from Jaein awkwardly.

The lift arrived, and Jaein walked in.

Jaein (holding the lift doors open): Coming?

Jaejoong nodded his head and stepped into the lift awkwardly. He stood behind Jaein and took the chance to check her out from head to toe. For the first time that night, he had the chance to look at her without any interruption or distraction. She was in a fitted black tube dress that ended at her knees, as well as enhance all her womanly curves, and black pointy heels that lengthened her legs.

Jaejoong leaned forward towards Jaein and trapped her near the lift controls. He pressed the emergency stop button, and Jaein fell slightly back towards him. She turned to face him with curiosity written all over her face.

Jaejoong: I didn't realise before that you looked so irresistible tonight...

Jaein blushed. Jaejoong took the chance to pull her into his arms. Jaein looked up at him in surprise. He leaned down and engulfed her lips with his. As Jaein gave in to his kiss, she couldn't help but feel the same way she felt when he first confessed to her a year ago in the pool.

Chapter 16: Jealousy

Jaejoong's eyes followed Jaein as she mingled around the crowd that night. He observed her from afar, as he knew that she would not talk to him again after what he just did earlier. He realised that he could had been wrong, and misunderstood her for the whole time. But though he was desperate to know what happened to her note, he could not do anything about that until he went back to Korea. So meanwhile, he stole as many glances at Jaein, as humanly possible without her noticing, because he had missed her so much.

She had changed quite a lot. Now that she actually paid MORE attention to her looks, she was looking more and more beautiful than a year ago. In fact, she was becoming TOO charming to him, she was attracting quite a bit of attention from the other young men from the other organisations in the party.

And what totally sucked for Jaejoong, was that he wanted to go up and pull her away into his arms, claiming her as HIS, and shielding her from all those straying eyes of all "the flies" around her. But he could not do that...

So all he could do was to sulk in his heart, whilst stealing glances at Jaein, who was smiling so sweetly at all "the flies". But not even ONCE looking in his direction, or acknowledging his presence...

Flashes of Jaejoong's politely conversing with the guests appeared within Jaein's vision when she spoke to the guests throughout the night. It was as if he would not leave her alone. He always seemed to be in her line of sight whenever she was socialising. And it was hard for Jaein not to notice him, despite trying her very best to mentally block his face out.

She still could not help noticing his face shine out from amongst all the other guests. It felt as if though the place was so crowded, there were only the two of them, and he was just standing in front of her face, vying for her attention.

Moreover, there were many female guests gathered around him, trying to get his attention, and flirting with him. After graduation, and some time in university and working in the society, he was looking much more suave and poised than before. And even though he was still pretty much as cold as before, his male charisma was increasing, and she could sense it, even if she was miles away. He is a kingka afterall. In that suit, how could the rest compare to him? He was a natural-born star amongst all the male guests that night, shining brightly, and sticking out like a sore thumb to Jaein.

It annoyed her very much, because she still felt something for him, despite being mad at him. But no matter what she did, his face was still always there in front of her, along with the crowd of buzzing "bees" around him, the "flower". So she busied herself with the numerous guests that her CEO had introduced to her, trying to block his face and all the women around him out, even if it was futile.

As the night slowly came to an end, the guests slowly parted ways and left in their vehicles. Jaein was waiting for her car to be brought over by the valet when she noticed Jaejoong coming out from the door with a bunch of "bees" still hovering around him. She was quite annoyed, so when her car came, she slammed her car door very hard before zooming off at high speed.

Jaein slammed her car door. She reached her apartment, and walked angrily from the carpark to the lift lobby, when complaining rather loudly...

Jaein (punching the lift button a few times angrily and impatiently): STUPID KIM JAEJOONG!!! HOW CAN HE INSULT ME LIKE THAT, AND THEN GO PARADE AROUND WITH A POSSE OF FLIRTATIOUS SLUTS IN FRONT OF MY FACE!!! I HATE HIM!!! I HATE HIM!!! DON'T EVER LET ME SEE HIM AGAIN, OR ESLE I'LL... I'LL....

Jaein punched the lift button a few times angrily and impatiently. The lift doors opened, and she entered the lift.

Jaein: AHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

A pair of arms had slipped around Jaein's waist and grabbed her, pulling her backwards towards his body, while carrying her inwards into the lift. She screamed in shock, and tried to push herself away from her attacker. But she wasn't strong enough.

Jaejoong: You'll do what, huh?

Jaein ceased struggling, and turned around in shock when she heard the voice of her attacker. When she turned around to face Jaejoong, he could not help himself anymore. He could smell the faint sweet scent from her shampoo, feel her body's warmth against his body, and the sight of her pouting strawberry lips lured him so much to plant a kiss on them. He swiftly stole a kiss on her lips. Jaein's eyes opened wide with shock, and she struggled futilely again to break loose from his death hold.

Jaein (hitting his arms angrily): GET YOUR HANDS OFF ME!!! YOU JERK!!! LET ME GO!!!

Jaejoong loosened his arms, and pressed the "emergency stop" button making the lift jerk to sudden stop, making Jaein lose her balance and fall back towards him. She struggled to get away from him, and to make the lift move again, but he body-blocked the lift controls.

Jaein (staring at Jaejoong with daggers in her eyes): WHAT DO YOU WANT?!!!!

Jaejoong moved closer towards Jaein cornering her, and blocking her from running away from him. His body was so near to hers, that even if she moved just an inch, she would bump into him immediately.

Jaejoong: Don't you understand anything at all?

Jaein (irritatedly): WHAT???!!!!

Jaejoong: Ha ha ha... no need to sound so irritatedly...

Jaein: Who... WHO said so!!!.... I'm NOT irritated AT ALL!!!

Jaejoong: No?... Come on... I know that you're JEALOUS of ALL the beautiful ladies around me tonight...

Jaein (stuttering slightly): I...I....I've got MUCH BETTER things to do than to be jealous of those... those... women....

Jaejoong: Is that right? I thought you craved for MY attention... as much as... them...

Jaein (annoyed at his self-centred arrogance): WHO CARES ABOUT WHAT YOU DO!!! JUST GO BACK TO THOSE WOMEN AND LET ME GO!!! NOW!!!!

Jaejoong (smirking): You can go if you want... I'm not stopping you...

He raised both his hands to free her escape paths, but not moving his body one bit. If she wanted to leave, she would bump into his body before getting past him to the lift controls. Jaein raised her arms to block her body from his, while she tried to move pass Jaejoong, but she couldn't squeeze pass him, no matter how she pushed, as the space he left for her was too small, and he refused to budge at all. And all her tries, just made her bump into him more times, albeit unwillingly, but much to Jaejoong's delight.

Jaein (irritatedly staring up at Jaejoong's face): ARGHHH!!! KIM JAEJOONG!!! I HATE YOU!!!

Jaejoong crashed his lips into Jaein's, his hands going around her face, and pulling her face towards his, as he kissed her passionately.

Jaejoong couldn't stand it anymore. The sight of Jaein trying so hard to get pass him made him want to hold her in his arms even more. He wanted to just kiss all the bad memories away, and to bring back all the good times they had shared together.

Jaein felt her body melting and softening as Jaejoong kissed her. Slowly her struggling ceased. Jaejoong broke the kiss and looked at Jaein lovingly.

Jaejoong: Don't hate me... Cos I still love you... A lot...

Jaein (sulking): Liar.

Jaejoong: I'm not lying... It's true... I didn't get your note at all... I thought you didn't want me anymore... That's why you left without a word...

Jaein: No need to explain anything. I'm no one to you. Moreover... I won't believe you again... EVER...

Jaein's thoughts: No matter WHAT you say... I won't believe you again... I won't let my heart be broken again by you...

Jaejoong (looking away dejectedly): I understand... It was wrong of me to insult you like that just now... I'm sorry... I won't disturb you ever again...

Jaejoong moved away and stood in front of the lift controls, he pressed the "emergency stop" button to let the lift move again. Both stood in silence.

*DING LEVEL 33*

The lift reached Jaein's apartment level, and the doors opened.

Jaein walked out of the lift and towards her apartment.

Jaejoong: Bye... Forever...

*SLAM*

The lift doors closed.

Jaein turned around to look at the lift.

She felt a nagging ache in her heart.

Did she do the wrong thing by shutting Jaejoong out?

But if it's the right thing to do, why does her heart ache so badly that she feels like she's going to die?

Chapter 15: Aftermath

The morning after... before sunrise...

Both Jaein and Jaejoong couldn't sleep the whole night after they parted ways. Jaejoong was too excited from his success in his love declaration, and having Jaein accept his love relatively easily. And he couldn't wait for morning to come so that he could pop over and see her again. As Jaein had forced him to leave the house last night, citing inappropriateness as the reason, as she didn't want her cousins to see her together with him. He had agreed reluctantly, but made a pact with her to meet for breakfast early in the morning.

Jaein, however, was tossing and turning the whole night for another reason. She HAD to leave today, and despite her heart wishing to stay to be with Jaejoong, she had to leave to return to her school and her lessons. There was no way that she could stay. But she didn't want to tell him last night and deprive him of his rare moment of joy. She did whatever she could to make him happy, hoping that it will leave him something nice memory of what they shared to reminiscence over when she's not around...

After leaving a note to her cousins, and a note to Jaejoong (left in his mailbox), Jaein left the house early before dawn so that Jaejoong wouldn't know that she had already left. As she knew that he would definitely stop her from leaving if he saw her leaving. Especially after last night, he must have thought that she would be staying with him. But Jaein was a stubborn girl, she didn't like to depend on others. She didn't depend on her parents' money before, so she was most definitely not going to depend on her cousins or Jaejoong for her expenses. She would go back to school, and her part-time tuition job to earn her own keep.

If she had time, she would meet up with him...
If things didn't work out, it probably wasn't meant to be...
And, if something was meant to be, nothing can break it apart...
If it wasn't meant to be, then the slightest thing will crack it...
And then there's nothing worth being upset over...
He just wasn't The One...

With these in mind, Jaein hypnotised herself to leave her cousins' house, and her first true love...

1 year later...

Jaein had already graduated a month after she left her cousins' house, but she didn't teach at Jaejoong's school. In fact she didn't teach at all. She went back to work at her parents' company.

"Why?", you might ask.

"Where is Jaejoong?"

"Aren't they together still?"

Jaejoong is no longer in the scene. At least in Jaein's eyes. As he never contacted Jaein after she left. She took it that he didn't want to continue in a hopeless long distance relationship with someone whose 6 years his senior, that seemed to have no future. She didn't take it too hard. She took it in her stride, but her heart was already shattered a second time. And she didn't want to open herself to another again. And to heal her heart, she moved somewhere else.

Somewhere far away from where her bad memories were...
She moved to another country.
She moved to Singapore.
Based at her parents' company in Singapore, she switched jobs, homes and country to stop herself from ever thinking of Jaejoong.

On the other hand, Jaejoong had also graduated from his school, and was entering university, while working part-time at his parents' company to gain experience, as he studied. Much like Jaein, he was turning to work to numb himself from the pain of thinking of her.

He never understood why she chose to leave that day. And it bore holes in his heart that she would treat his love so callously, when he (a kingka) had bared the whole of his true heart to her. Maybe she thought that he was too young for her. But why did she kiss him back that night then? His mind was in a maze, and it gave him intense headaches whenever he thought of her.

At a corporate event dinner...

Jaein's company was hosting a corporate charity event, and a lot of companies were invited. Jaein was graciously and elegantly dressed for the occasion. As the director of the company, she had to pay more attention to her looks, since she represented the company.

Her CEO was bringing her around introducing her to the various business partners.

CEO: Ms Jun, come over, let me introduce you to Mr Kim from the Kim Holdings.

Jaein went over to her CEO's side and bowed to Mr Kim politely.

Jaein: Nice to meet you Mr Kim. I'm Jun Jaein from the Jun Corporation.

With her body bent bowing, she stretched out her hand to shake his. He took her hand in his after some consideration and his grip was real strong, and he didn't want to let go of her hand. She looked up, and was shocked to see Jaejoong standing in front of her, eyes wide opened, holding her hand in his tightly.

Jaein: Jae... I mean... Mr Kim... Nice to meet you...

Jaein pulled her hand away from Jaejoong's forcefully. Both had spent so much time and effort trying to forget each other, and now they had to meet again under such circumstances. It was too much for both to take.

CEO: Mr Kim is the young heir of Kim Holdings, and he's learning the ropes from his parents now as he's still studying... Very promising young man indeed... Hope to work with you soon...

Jaejoong peeled his eyes away from Jaein, and force a smile at the CEO and bowed politely. Jaein kept her head low and eyes looking downwards, avoiding all eye contact with Jaejoong.

CEO: I'll leave you two to get to know each other, cos you're around the same age... Not like the rest of us old fogeys around here... Ha ha ha...

Jaein: Uncle... wait.. I...

The CEO ignored Jaein and walked off, leaving the two behind in awkward silence.

Jaejoong stared at Jaein, but she kept looking down, and avoiding eye contact with him. Feeling anger rise in him, Jaejoong grabbed Jaein's hand, and tugged her towards a more remote area so that he could question her on why she left. Once away from the crowd, Jaejoong trapped Jaein against the wall, forcing her to face him.

Jaejoong: So you don't know me now? After disappearing without a trace for a year?

Jaein kept silent and looked down.

Jaejoong (anger rising): Answer me! Why did you leave?!!! And what are you doing here?!!!

Jaein: I didn't disappear.... I HAD to leave... I still had a semester to finish... You can't expect me to just drop-out of school after so much, just because of something that might not even...

Jaejoong (cutting in): So you didn't believe me!!!??!!! I told you I wasn't lying!!!!

Jaein: I didn't say that you were lying... I just don't think that it'll work out...

Jaejoong (overwhelmed by anger): THEN WHY DID YOU LEAD ME ON THAT NIGHT???!!!! THE KISS... DID THAT MEAN NOTHING TO YOU???!!! ARE YOU THAT EASY???!!!!

Jaein (horrified by his insults): NO!!!! I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT YOU'D SAY THIS!!!

Jaejoong: You're a teacher, and yet you're working in business now... Who knows what you're saying is true, and when it's a lie... For all I know, it could have been another lie... You could have just been playing with me....

*SLAP*

Jaein slapped Jaejoong hard on his face. She glared at him hard with anger and hatred.

Jaein's thoughts: I can't believe that you'd say such hurtful things to me... You said that you love me... Is that how you treat someone you love? If this is what you call true love...

Jaein (nonchalantly): Ha ha ha... I guess I'd been a big fool afterall... There is NOTHING called TRUE love in this world... It's all just a cruel game of manipulation... And to set the record straight... I DIDN'T disappear without a trace... I left you a note in your mailbox... But I guess you probably didn't care, so that's gone to the trash... Anyway all this is just a game to kill time and boredom for you rich brats... I don't think poor, ugly people like me can afford to involve myself in this anymore... So I'll take my leave now... I hope I'll NEVER see you again in this lifetime or the next...

Jaein pushed Jaejoong aside, and walked back to the crowd. She braced herself and forced back her tears that threatened to fall from her eyes, putting on a forced smile to go back to mingling with the other guests.

Jaejoong stared at her walking away in shock. He didn't expect her to react like this, cos he thought she was really lying to him. And what shocked him even more was that she had left a note for him. But how come he never saw it?

Chapter 14: The confession

Jaein wasn't even able to foresee it coming...

When her head popped out from the water surface, the first thing she knew was her face was being pulled forward...

Right into Jaejoong's...

And he pressed his warm lips hard against her cold ones...

Jaein's eyes widened in surprise and struggled to push Jaejoong away but his grip was very strong on her. After a round of strenuous but futile struggling, Jaejoong finally let go of Jaein.

Jaein (angrily wiping her lips with the back of her hands): ARGHHHHHH!!!! KIM JAEJOONG!!!! MICHEOSEO???!!! (ARE YOU CRAZY???!!!) DON'T YOU HAVE ANY OTHER BETTER THINGS TO DO THAN TO PRANK ON ME AND MAKE MY LIFE MISERABLE??!!!!

Jaejoong stared hard into Jaein's eyes, hoping that she would understand why he kissed her, and how he felt. But an irritated Jaein just turned around and swam off. Away from him...

A desperate Jaejoong jumped into the pool and started walking clumsily towards Jaein, as he couldn't swim. Of course his clumsy state didn't bring him far before the pool depth dipped, and he was left struggling in the water.

Jaejoong (frantically): HEEEEEEEELPPPPPP!!!

Jaein heard him struggling in the water, and turned back to see him semi-drowning. She swam back to him and helped him back to the shallow area.

Jaein (frustratedly): Gwenchana? You can't swim?

Jaejoong (coughing and breathing hard, while nodding): Ye...

Jaein (slapping Jaejoong's back to help him gain his breathing cycle back): You ARE REALLY crazy... Fancy jumping into a pool when you can't....

Jaejoong interrupted Jaein by pulling her into his arms and hugging her tightly.

Jaejoong (pleadingly): Kajimal... Please don't go... Don't leave me... I don't wish to part with you...

Jaein was too shocked by his sudden hug and words to push him away.

Jaejoong (seeing no resistance from Jaein, continued his confession): Ms Jun... I think I... I... I've fallen in love... With you... Sarangheyo...

Jaein blinked her eyes repeatedly on hearing Jaejoong. She couldn't grasp how he could possibly be in love with her when he had been picking on her like she was his natural-born nemesis since day one in school. To her it was all like a major prank and joke that he was trying to plant on her. She knew that the moment she said yes to him, his face would change and start saying "GOTCHA!" to her heartlessly like the spoilt brat he is. But somewhere deep inside her heart, she did sense a change in him, especially when her hands were hurt. And he nursed her wounds so attentively...

Sensing no reaction from Jaein, after his explosive and shocking confession, Jaejoong pulled himself away from the hug to take a look at her. Jaein's face was serious and dark with brewing anger, mixed with confusion from his words.

Jaejoong (uncertainly): Ms Jun... I said... Sarangheyo... Will you stay? And not leave?

Jaein: Will you stop fooling around!!! It's not funny at all!!! Leave now... I don't want to see you again... Ever...

Jaein turned to swim back into the pool. Jaejoong ran clumsily after her. He just managed to grab her before the dip in the pool depth, and dragged her down together with him, as he struggled frantically yet again...

Jaejoong's thoughts: If I let her go now, she'll never come back again... I must not let go even if I drown...

Jaein got a shock when Jaejoong pulled her down together with him when he fell. She tried to struggle away from him, but he was struggling to keep his hold on her, as well as to go back up, as he was drowning. Water was going down his throat, and he was panicking, and yet he refused to let Jaein go...

In the chaos, Jaein couldn't even swim back up to the surface. So in order to calm Jaejoong down, so that she can regain control to save both of them, she grabbed him and pulled him towards her, and planting her lips over his, to calm and to prevent him from drinking anymore water.

Once Jaein kissed Jaejoong, he calmed down immediately, but his arms were still strongly grabbing onto her. They sank down to the bottom of the pool. Once Jaein could touch the bottom with her feet, she kicked hard to push both Jaejoong and herself back up to the water surface.

When they reached the surface, Jaein broke the kiss to take a deep breath before dragging Jaejoong back to the shallow end. Once Jaejoong could feel the ground on his feet, he grabbed Jaein and hugged her tightly from the back.

Jaejoong (panting heavily from his near drowning): Ms Jun... I'm not joking... It's not a prank... Miduhyo... (Trust me) Please... I really... really... love you...

Jaein's thoughts: If he's joking, he's really going ALL OUT... almost drowning twice... But knowing him, I don't think he's lying... Can it really be true that he likes me? But I'm 6 years his senior...

Jaein: You almost drowned both of us... For this prank... And... What's more... I'm older than you...

Jaejoong (determinedly): I don't care about your age... It doesn't matter in the face of love...

Jaein (trying to sound factually sound): But like you said before... I'm poor... And I'm ugly... We're too different... It's not possible...

Jaejoong (determinedly): I don't need you to have money or looks... I have them both... I just need you to be you... I just want you to be yourself... I just... I just love Jun Jaein as she is...

Jaein: You're CRAZY...

Jaejoong (turning Jaein around to face him): I don't know when it started, but I'm guessing that the very first time you grabbed me... I've already started feeling something for you... Cos you're the only person who's EVER gone against me in my entire life... Even Yunho and Junsu gives in to me all the time... I admit that I'm spoilt... But you're special... No matter how angry I was with you... I could never stay angry for long... I never took revenge on you the way I did on others... And I didn't seem to mind your touch at all despite being a complete cleanliness freak... Yes... You might think that I'm CRAZY... But you're the one who made me this way... Ms Jun... I'm CRAZY...

Jaejoong tilted Jaein's chin up so her face looked at him, and leaned in closer to her.

Jaejoong: For you...

He closed his eyes and leaned in to kiss her. Jaein's heart softened when he kissed her this time. This time she could feel how warm and soft his lips were against hers. He seemed to be putting his entire heart out into the kiss to prove to her how he felt about her. She could feel it. And her own hidden feelings for him were also sneaking out slowly...

She knew that it might not last long, or be enough for him, but she kissed him back with all her heart...

Love in the ice - Chapter 13

Chapter 13: It's time....

It was time...
Exams were over. Marking was done. Time for Jaein to leave the school and return to her old student life for a year before she graduates and becomes an official teacher.

She went in early to pack up her things, as well as to leave thank-you notes to Mr Shim, and the other teachers who had helped her during her internship at the school. The school was so quiet, as neither students nor teachers were around at that hour. It was too early for the rich kids to be in school. They all needed their beauty sleep.

Jaein strolled leisurely to take a last look at the classroom that she had spent most of her time in during her internship. Flashbacks of her first day up till her last lesson there rushed back to her in her mind. There was some reluctance to leave. She would miss the students here, despite them being spoilt brats and all.

She walked into the classroom and strolled around amongst the desks. She paused at Jaejoong's desk, and sat down. Running her fingers across his table, she recalled her numerous explosive encounters with him.

Jaein's thoughts: *sigh* I still don't understand why I feel regret and guilt towards you when you failed? When we're supposed to be like at loggerheads at each other... I don't understand what my mind is thinking anymore... But what I DO know, is that even though we're like natural-born nemeses, I don't think I can EVER forget you... At least not in this life...

She gathered her things and walked out of the classroom. She took one last look at the school's exterior before walking off to take a bus back to her cousins' house. They knew that she was leaving tomorrow, and they wanted to hold a party for her to see her off, but they had school. And Jaein had also asked them not to let anyone else know. Even their namja chingus. So they just had a private dinner with her the evening before, which was a Sunday.

When Jaein reached the house, her cousins had already left for school. She proceeded to pack her stuff and get ready for her departure tomorrow on Tuesday. When she was packing her things, she found Jaejoong's shirt under her bed. The one that she had been wearing with nothing underneath when she woke up in his bed. Then she remembered that she still had his jacket with her. The one that he had threw to her when the class pulled a prank on her and drenched her in water...

Jaein's thoughts: Better to get rid of any traces of him here... Or the girls might get suspicious...

She took the shirt and jacket out and brought them to the laundry room. After she put them into the washing machine to wash, she sat down beside the machine, staring into the soapy water splashing around in the machine.

Jaein's thoughts: I'd better leave these laundered and pressed before returning it to the cleanliness freak... But I don't think I want to see him again... Well... he might not want them back at all though... Heck... I'll just leave them in his mailbox... I don't care if he throws them away or burns them afterwards... I've already done my part...

With that in mind, she washed the clothes, spun dried them, and ironed them before folding them and placing them into a paper bag. She walked out to drop the bag into his mail box. Vick ran up to the gate when he saw her, and barked at her while wagging his tail happily. Jaein squatted down and patted Vick's head through the gate.

Jaein: Mianeyo Vick... I'm leaving tomorrow... I've come to say goodbye... Thanks for taking care of Snowball for me... I'll miss you... Snowball will too...

Vick murmured sadly, as if he knew that Jaein was going to leave, and he was sad to see her leave.

Jaein (sadly): Mianeyo... but I don't think we'll see each other again... mianeyo... it's goodbye... forever...

Jaein's thoughts: Cos I don't think I wish to see your owner ever again...

Jaein got up and rushed back into her house. She could hear Vick whimpering sadly when she did. She blinked back the tears that were threatening to overflow from her eyes, and got back to her packing. Soon it was evening, and the girls came back from school. They had a nice dinner with Jaein, and spent some time chitchatting till 10pm, and the girls were too tired to carry on. They retired for the night, and bid their final goodbyes to Jaein, as she would be leaving early tomorrow morning.

Yining: Bye cous... promise to visit us soon okay?

Yiting: Yeah... Or we'd have to go kidnap you from your apartment to come here for a visit...

Jaein (giggling): Yeah I know... I'll try to visit soon... it's just that university last year will be quite hectic... but I'll try...

The trio hugged each other and retired for the night.

Late night... Jaejoong's room...

Jaejoong tossed and turned in his bed. He was having trouble sleeping. In fact he was having trouble concentrating the whole day.

In school, he couldn't help but notice that Jaein wasn't in class anymore. And it was back to the annoying MALE teacher to take over all her classes. No one mentioned anything about her being sick or anything like that. And her hands SHOULD have already healed by now. Why wasn't she coming to her classes anymore?

He needed to know. So he pretended to slip into the teachers' office to drop off his assignment, in hope of stealing a peak at Jaein, or just to see if she was alright. But he noticed that her table was cleared of all her things, as if there was no sign that she had ever been here before.

Jaejoong pretended that he needed to ask Jaein some questions on the subject, and asked another teacher about her whereabouts. Only then did he know that her internship was over, and she had already left the school, and won't be back anymore.

That was when it hit him. That he would never see her again...

Jaejoong got out of his bed and stepped out into the balcony. He looked over to the girls' house. Jaein's room to be exact. Her lights were off.

Jaejoong's thoughts: Did you know that I wanted so much to kiss you on several occasions? *sigh* Are you asleep now? Or are you enjoying the cool night breeze outside with the girls now? Partying away... So happy to be free from ever seeing me again... So happy... that... you're leaving... without... saying... goodbye...

Jaejoong looked away sadly, and something caught his eyes...

Girls' house...

Jaein was having trouble sleeping, so she decided to take a dip in the pool. She was swimming laps around the pool. When she emerged at the end near the gate, she was shocked to see Jaejoong squatting in front of her.

Jaein (almost letting out a scream from shock, backing away from him and back into the pool): WHAT are you doing here??!!! HOW did you get in???!!! Are you trying to scare me to death?

Jaejoong (nonchalantly): I have my reasons for doing this... You're an irresponsible teacher... Why didn't you come to school today? Classes are still on you know...

Jaein (shaking her head in disbelief): It's none of your business...

Jaein turned to head back to her swimming. Jaejoong was pissed by her, as she was ignoring him, when he was genuinely trying to talk to her. He ran over to the other end of the pool to wait for her. When Jaein emerged again this time, he grabbed her by her shoulders.

Jaejoong (angrily): ANSWER ME!!! WHY DID YOU LEAVE WITHOUT REASON??!!! YOU... IRRESPONSIBLE WOMAN!!!

Jaein (struggling to get away from his grasp): It's none of your business... I've already left the school. Isn't that what you want since day 1? We won't have to EVER see each other EVER again. What more do you want from me?

Jaejoong took a deep breath, and tried to calm himself down. He knew that he needed to let her know how he felt about her, or she would leave him and he would never see her again.

Jaejoong: We need to talk...

Jaein: I have nothing to say to you...

Jaejoong: But I do...

Jaein: I'm not interested...

Jaejoong: You don't have a choice...

Jaein: Yes I do!!!

Jaein pushed Jaejoong's hands away from her with all her might, and went back to swimming. Jaejoong was exasperated. She was refusing to listen to him, and he needed to let her hear what he had to say. Desperately.

Jaein was swimming as fast as she could away from the side where Jaejoong was at to the other end, so that he wouldn't be able to get to the other end in time to pester her.

She swam so fast, till she was quite breathless when she reached the other end, and when she came up abruptly for a breather...
